RADIO GA GA SALUTES MUSHROOM RECORDS – AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTION

Mushroom Records was an Australian record label formed in 1972. Its inaugural release was the triple live album of the 1973 Sunbury Pop Festival. Mushroom struggled to survive for its early years and came close to shutting down on several occasions, but was pushed to the forefront of the Australian music scene in early 1975 following the release of Skyhooks debut album “Living In The ’70’s” which became the biggest-selling Australian LP ever released up to that time and Mushroom became a major player in the Australian music scene as a result of this and the following successes they enjoyed. Split Enz, Kylie Minogue, Sports, The Models, Jimmy Barnes and Hunter & Collectors followed although Toni Pearen, Scandal’us, Sid Rumpo, Jenn Forbes and Peter Andre’ did too!!! Nonetheless, the Mushroom label has become synonymous with classic Australian rock and pop and has had a huge influence on what we have been listening to for the last 40 years or so. On consecutive Saturday’s the 23rd & 30th August on Radio Ga Ga between 10am and noon we shall pay homage to an Australian icon with facts and fiction and all the tunes that made Mushroom and Australian music what it is today. Could be magic!!
