Melanie suddenly became an ‘overnight’ star after she appeared at the legendary Woodstock Music Festival in 1969. She went on to become one of America’s most respected & successful female singer-songwriters, in fact she was the first female singer to have a self-penned number one hit in the USA, that being ‘Brand New Key’. Other hits include ‘Beautiful People’, ‘Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)‘, ‘The Nickel Song‘, ‘Ruby Tuesday‘, etc. Melanie sold over 80 million records in her lifetime.
