Expendables 2 Film Review from Alex’s Mixed Bag 15th September 2012

Back in 2010, Sylvester Stallone got nearly every major action star from the last few decades and put them all in the one film to make the ultimate action movie. What else does and action movie need? A Sequel, and this week I saw it.

Let’s go through the cast, Stallone, Statham, Jet Li, Lungren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture are all back from the first one. Bruce Willis and Arnie are also back playing a bigger role this time around, and we also have Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damm, it’s a cavalcade of action awesomeness

For those unfamiliar, Stallone is a leader of a gang of mercenaries who are experts in their field and are great at blowing stuff up. One day Cia Agent Church pays Stallone’s character a visit and give him a mission

So off to sunny Albania the group set off to in the quest of finding a mini computer that holds very valuable information from a Plane Crash Site.

An action film needs a Bad Guy, and Van Damm  is the bad guy in this, who would have thought? Not often the villian, The last time I can remember him being a villain was in the classic “No Retreat NO Surrender”

Van Dam’s character is after the same mini computer and that is where the fun begins, with a personal vendetta thrown in for good measure.

If you are expecting deep dialogues, plot and in depth character development, do see something with subtitles at some fancy cinema somewhere because this film just has things blowing up, people getting shot, and van dam doing his round house kicks.

You can’t have a film full of stars of cheesy action films without a mountain of cheesy lines. You also have plenty scenes of one guy walking through a room full of guys shooting at him and not getting hurt.

It was an entertaining enough film and I actually liked it better than the first one. It seemed to work a bit better for some reason.

The only problem is that maybe it’s all too much, maybe there isn’t enough room for that many action stars on the one screen.

But I am a 31 year old male with both the Rambo and Rocky Box set at home, so I can’t complain too much about it all, and this made me want to run down to the video shop and take a trip down memory lane, with films such as kickboxer, missing in action and cobra.

I give it a solid 3 stars.
