WRITE NOW and BEST MEDICINE

OH WHAT A NIGHT!

Friday 10 May 2013     Bayside Literary Festival  launch

Warm, inviting evening; delicious canapés and drinks; but the best was to come.

Vicky Petraitis ably hosted, regaling us with witty tales. After the Mayor’s encouraging words,  Keira Dickinson spoke about volunteering with St Vinnie’s Soup Van; listening to and connecting with people  in need and wanting to record their stories, which led to the book Soup Van – stories over a polystyrene cup  (The Rag and Bone Man Press) .  Keira told us some of the moving and often hopeful stories and impressed upon us the value of compassionate volunteers.

The choir Off The Shelf a brilliant, a cappella group of librarians excellently directed by Jacqueline Gawler (Coco’s Lunch) delighted with sometimes powerful and at other times playful, rhythmic songs. An exciting and uplifting end to the night .

Kudos to Annie Opray, Festival Direcor, for this night and to all involved.

A brilliant start to a Festival of great promise. Get yourself a brochure and GO!
