The following information will help you in choosing Southern FM for your marketing purposes.
Southern FM is located in Mentone after our recent move from Moorabbin and broadcasts to Melbourne’s southern suburbs from Richmond in the north to Frankston in the south and east to Dandenong and beyond. However, we frequently hear from listeners well outside this range and plans are underway to further expand our coverage with installation of a new antenna in the near future.
Our resources, technology and professionalism have also grown over the past 26 years since the stations commencement as has our commitment to our listening area and it’s people, whilst the principles on which the station was founded have remained constant even as we move forward into the future.
The station broadcasts to a population of approximately 380,000 and based on Roy Morgan Research data our listening audience exceeds 25,000. This combined with the fact that the top three industries in our listening demographic comprise Manufacturing, Property and Business/Retail provides our sponsors with an ideal opportunity to attract patronage from listeners who are well-placed in terms of household disposable income as well as having an interest in their local community.
Southern FM maintains it’s position of being able to avoid some of the negative aspects of globalisation at a local level by providing programs suited specifically to local audiences.
Southern FM is funded by grants, sponsorships, membership and studio fees paid by our on-air presenters.
The station broadcasts from 6.00am daily with a large cross section of programs running until the early hours of the morning.
The diversity of our shows ensures we attract loyal listeners to our programs which include magazine style shows, sports, health and lifestyle, literature, local and international news along with nearly every genre of music imaginable including classical, blues, jazz, alternative, 60′s, techno along with the chart topping hits of the moment.
Added to this our vast array of ethnic and cultural programs and sponsors are able to reach their particular audiences on one station rather than having to run advertising on several stations to achieve a similar outcome.
Southern FM is limited to no more than 5 minutes of sponsorship messages per hour. This ensures your message will be heard rather than lost in a myriad of advertisement clusters as you hear on commercial radio.
When your message is broadcast on Southern FM it is broadcast as a sponsorship message rather than an advertisement. We believe this gives an advantage in that listeners have greater empathy for your message because it supports the station which they are listening to. To ensure this is recognisable we put a ‘tag’ at the end of your message that typically would be something like “name of your organisation – is a proud sponsor of Southern FM”.
At 88.3 Southern FM we do not have paid staff or management, everyone is a volunteer. People from all walks of life make up our active membership. Their knowledge, talents and expertise add up to the range of programs we can put to air. It is everyone involved with the station who take care of the day-to-day operation of the station.
Some of our members have worked in commercial radio or with Government broadcasters and on television as presenters, panel operators or in technical support roles. Others are, or have been involved in the media as journalists or on stage, in film, television, theatre and the music industry.
Behind the scenes our on air presenters (who actually pay for studio time to enable their program to go to air) are supported by dedicated helpers in the area’s of production, engineering, accounting and administration.
When you pay for a sponsorship message you will know that the money is being used only to run the radio station, not paying salaries or dividends to shareholders. The income is used to pay rent, utilities, production of newsletters and payment of licence fees along with other improvements to the station.
For more information or if you have any queries about sponsorship packages please contact Nigel Carter on 0407 887013. Alternatively, call the station on 03 9583 0533 or fill out the form below and our Sponsorship Manager will contact you.
Thanks Southern FM, for rescuing me from the mainstream hell of commerical radio!
