From the Southern FM archives – listen to our 1998 radio drama serial

Tune in on Monday 3 November 2025, as we turn back the hands of radio time for a two hour special to celebrate Southern FM’s 35th anniversary. From 9 AM to 11 AM, you can listen to Southern FM’s 1998 serial Murder of a Saint. Or you can listen anytime to the podcast here:

As reported in the Southern FM On Air newsletter in September 1998: Airing morning and afternoon over nine days, Murder of a Saint stars some 25 Southern FM members. Written and directed by Kevin McGrath, a former ABC writer and producer, the radio drama, Murder of a Saint focusses on a murder investigation in our own southern suburbs.

Sergeant Gavelich (Terri Adams) and Constable Sean McBride (Peter Martignoles) are on the hunt for a killer and in the course of the investigation come across some pretty weird characters, ably played by Southern FM presenters. Half the fun is recognising who is who.

The serial was recorded at the Southern FM studios under Kevin’s expert direction and Raymond Simms has done a superb job with the initial recording and the post production work, putting it altogether.

Murder of a Saint, coming soon to Southern FM. Listen Monday 3 November 2025.

Acknowledgement: Thank you to Raymond Simms for providing the digitised version of the serial which was originally recorded on quarter-inch tape.
