It’s 35 years since the Sisters in Crime literary network was founded in Australia and today it has members and chapters in every State, writing furiously and winnning big prizes.

Thousands of women have been inspired to write a short crime story and many have gone on to publish novels. Journalist Sue Kaufmann spoke to Founder and National Convenor, Carmel Shute, about a killer career.

You can listen to the first Scarlett Stiletto award-winning story from 1994 on this week’s Clare on Air podcast. Read by Susanna Lobez, it’s called Everything $2 On This Rack, by Cate Kennedy.

You can also get the Scarlett Stilletto Bites podcast on your streaming service. And this year’s award is open now
