Kingston Council “less than ideal” says Minister Staikos
Local Government Minister Nick Staikos says the appointment of Municipal Monitors to oversee Kingston City Council is “not a punitive measure”. The Minister told Southern FM newsman Colin Tyrus that the start of the new council (elected last year) has been “less than ideal”. In the 2024 Kingston Council elections, three councillors were re-elected and eight new faces joined the 11-member council. Mr Staikos says the Government-appointed monitors will report to him on the functioning of Kingston City Council but he refused to speculate on any possible ramifications.
